This resource brings together induction and support programmes for IMG doctors across Scotland’s Health Boards, including a range of resources available.
Within this section you'll find guidance and key contacts for the different NHS Health Boards in Scotland—to support particularly if you move between regions during your training or career.
We’ve centralised information from NHS Scotland HealthBoards, including:
IMG Lead Information
IMG Induction Programme Information
IMG Support Resources
Health Board Networks
Resources for Trainers, Supervisors, Employers and Managers of IMG Doctors
By centralising information from across the regions, this resource aims to promote the sharing of good practice, encourage continuous improvement, and support consistent, high-quality care for IMG doctors at every stage of their career.
We want every IMG doctor—regardless of grade, specialty, or employment type—to feel welcomed, valued, and recognised for the skills and experience they bring to NHS Scotland. We hope this hub helps you guide and support your IMG colleagues throughout their journey.
If you have questions or suggestions for additional content, please contact the Centre for Workforce Supply at nes.cws@nhs.scot.
There are also 8 national Health Boards. They support the regional boards by providing specialist and national services across the whole of Scotland.
To learn more about the locations of the NHS Health Boards in Scotland, visit the NHS Scotland Careers website.
Scotland’s Health Boards each offer tailored induction and support programmes for IMG doctors. For the first time, this resource brings all that information together in one place—making it easier for IMGs to find guidance and key contacts, especially if you move between Boards during your training or career.
Visit individual Health Board pages for details on available support and contact information for IMG Leads and International Recruitment Leads.
If there are any resources, tools, or guidance that would help you in your role as a trainer, employer or manager of IMG colleagues, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to the CWS Team or connect with the SING group via Achyut Valluri to share your ideas or request support.
