Who can attend:
All International Medical Graduates (IMGs) joining NHS Shetland are welcome to participate.
How to sign up:
You will receive an invitation from the Directorate of Medical Education. If you do not receive notification at least four weeks before your start date, please contact the DME directly.
Programme highlights:
NHS Shetland provides an induction day for all new resident doctors at each changeover. In addition, an enhanced induction programme runs throughout August, covering:
A âgetting-to-know-youâ dinner is also included as part of the programme.
All IMGs are encouraged to attend a GMC Welcome to UK Practice online workshop before starting, if not already completed (https://www.gmc-uk.org/about/what-we-do-and-why/learning-and-support/workshops/welcome-to-uk-practice)
Peer support and resources:
Youâll also have the opportunity to join the buddying scheme and access peer mentoring and support resources.
WINS - Welcoming IMGs New to Scotland
You are also invited to attend the WINS programme on 3rd September 2026 at Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow, 232-242 St Vincent St, Glasgow G2 5RJ.
We also encourage attendance at the GMC session âWelcome to UK Practiceâ.
Scottish IMG Doctors Support Network
The Scottish IMG Doctors Support Network is a national initiative designed to support International Medical Graduates (IMGs) working in Scotlandâs NHS. Its aim is to provide IMGs with practical guidance, peer support, and access to resources that help them thrive both professionally and personally.

This group is available locally and is open to all resident doctors. Itâs a great opportunity for networking and finding local support/advice.
