Support IMG Doctors in NHS Borders - Trainers, Supervisors, Employers and Managers of IMGs

IMGs bring a variety of experiences and diversity to the workplace. I thank you for taking extra time and effort to understand the challenges the IMG face and for offering support for these specific challenges. Differential attainment is the current biggest challenge IMGs face. I am available support if you as trainers or managers need help with IMGs addressing their issues and concerns. I am also available to speak with the IMGs if they wish to do that. Please email me on srihari.vallabhajousula@nhs.scot.

IMG Induction Programme
NHS Borders IMG Induction Programme

The Medical Education department provides a comprehensive support programme for IMGs, designed to ease their transition and enhance their experience working in the Scottish Borders.

The programme includes the following:

IMG Boot Camp
As part of an extended induction, IMGs are invited to attend a dedicated boot camp following the hospital-wide induction. This programme is tailored to address the unique needs of IMGs entering the NHS.

Relevant Themes and Feedback
The boot camp content is shaped by extensive feedback from local IMGs and insights from NES publications. Topics reflect real-life experiences and challenges faced by IMGs living and working in the Scottish Borders.

Ongoing Teaching and Development
Throughout the year, IMG-specific teaching sessions are delivered, focusing on portfolio development, reflective writing, and career progression.

Regular Communication
IMGs receive regular email updates from the Medical Education department, keeping them informed about upcoming teaching sessions, events, and opportunities.

Access to Resources
Locally employed IMG doctors have full access to teaching and training resources, coordinated through their line managers and the Medical Education department.

Equal Access for IMG GPSTs
IMG GP Specialty Trainees (GPSTs) benefit from equal access to all training resources provided by the Medical Education department.
