This framework has been created to support the development of digital capabilities for everyone working in health and social care in Scotland. The framework identifies the skills, knowledge and behaviours that are essential for this workforce, clarifying the responsibilities at individual, team and organisational level.
The framework outlines the digital skills, knowledge and behaviours everyone needs to do their job and deliver safe and good quality care and support.
The knowledge, skills, behaviours you have will apply differently depending on your specific role, your workplace, and your interactions with colleagues and people who use services.
You may be dealing with the general public in a pharmacy or GP surgery, delivering care, supporting people in their own home, working in a hospital ward, or providing services that support front-line staff.
It doesn’t matter if you spend all day, every day, with patients and members of the public, or you never encounter them directly, how you use digital and data tools to carry out your role has an impact on the care and support that is delivered and the effectiveness of services.
The framework applies to the entire health and social care workforce in Scotland (NHS, Local Authorities, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Social Work, Social Care, Care and Support Providers, Housing, Third and Independent Sectors), including managers, leaders and those in strategic positions.
No matter what type of service you work in, or what role you undertake, this framework is for you.
The framework complements existing organisational and professional learning and development frameworks and should be used to improve individual, team and service digital capability and identify any specific learning needs.
