Welcome to the Scottish Dental Mandatory Training programme.
The Scottish Dental Mandatory Training programme is a course that dentists are required to complete if they want to join the dental list in Scotland for the first time, or return to it after being absent for twelve months or more.
Mandatory Training is a Scottish Government programme. This certification is necessary for a territorial Health Board to issue a list number.
If you are a dentist who has not worked on an NHS list in Scotland or the UK within the last 12 months you are required to complete parts 1 and 2 of Dental Mandatory Training.
Dentists who are currently included on a dental list in the rest of the UK and have not worked in Scotland within the last 12 months are only required to complete part 2.
Once you have signed up and paid for your Dental Mandatory Training course you will receive an email with a link to a pre-requisite learning programme.
This should be completed before the Dental Mandatory Training course takes place.
After completing the Mandatory training course, all applicants are required to pass the Test of Knowledge. Passing this test is essential to receive a Certificate of Completion, which is needed to be listed in Scotland.
It is advised that applicants begin practicing for the test before the course starts. The practice questions contain helpful resources to assist in preparation.
To increase your chances of passing the test, it is crucial to attend all the sessions of the Mandatory training course and take advantage of the additional resources provided.
All aplicants must complete a personal development plan. If you do not already have a personal development plan please download the PDP template for mandatory training.
Further information on PDPs will be discussed on the course.
