Useful resources for those discussing vaccination with the public

The following resources will be of use to practitioners who have an opportunity in their role to discuss the importance of vaccination with patients, parents and carers. This will include but is not exclusive to Health Visitors, GPs, Practice Nurses, School Nurses, those working in oncology.

The Scottish Vaccine Update, published monthly from Public Health Scotland

Immunisation, vaccine and preventable disease pages from Public Health Scotland, information and resources on all the vaccination programmes as part of the Scottish Vaccination and Immunisation programme.

Guidance

Specimen Patient Group Direction (PGD) templates and National Protocols for COVID-19 vaccines have been developed and are available at Public Health Scotland.

The CMO letters set out the arrangements for vaccination programmes.

The Green Book has the latest information vaccines and vaccination procedures, for vaccine preventable infectious diseases  the UK. Please check the site for updates.

Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) - advises UK health departments on immunisation.

Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) - producing guidance and information for industry, healthcare professionals and patients.  

National Infection Prevention and Control Manual provides guidance to support infection prevention and control practices and procedures. 

NHS Scotland Social media guidance for vaccinators and vaccination centre staff.

NHS Inform - Scotland's national health information service where you can access patient information in relation to immunisation.

Nursing and Midwifery Council website has information for registered nurses and midwives. 

NHS Scotland Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers was introduced by the Scottish Government in recognition of the important role HCSWs play in a patient's experience or care and services in NHS Scotland.  It is a national code which applies to all HCSWs in NHS Scotland
