Learning resources and training opportunities for advanced nurse practitioners under the facilitation of learning pillar

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Advanced Practice
CPD logo

As an advanced level practitioner the CPD activity you undertake is your responsibility and should reflect your area of advanced practice.

How you meet your learning needs will depend on your preferred way of learning, what you are trying to learn and the opportunities available to you. It is good practice to seek a variety of activities to support a range of learning both formal and informal.

Some examples of learning that you may want to consider:

  • work based learning for example case-based discussion, shadowing or participating in a journal club,
  • self-directed learning for example accessing learning modules in Turas or Future Learn or reading a journal article,
  • undertaking professional activities for example presenting at a conference, attending a special interest group or community of practice,
  • enrolling in a formal programme of learning for example post graduate modules.

Special interest or advanced practice networks, colleagues, managers and supervisors can all help to support your CPD.

Development frameworks can provide guidance on your learning needs and the skills and knowledge you require in your role as an advanced practitioner.

The NMAHP Development Framework can support you to assess your learning needs across all the pillars of practice.
