Welcome to the Urgent and Unscheduled Care website. This platform is home to information on the National Urgent and Unscheduled Care Collaborative, which brings together the whole system to improve the quality and timeliness of care and, ultimately, the patient and staff experience.
This site provides access to information about our Collaborative, the approach we take to co-design, test, implement and sustain change. You will find our national toolkits, expert discussion group papers and other key documents. The site will also feature general updates, dates for your diary and links to our national learning network shared spaces.
As the title of our programme suggests, everything we do is based on collaboration, working together and taking a whole system approach to a whole system issue. This website will connect you with our improvement resources and best practice as we develop and test changes.
Our vision
The Unscheduled Care Team have always had collaboration and co-design at the heart of what we do. We develop tools and approaches with colleagues across NHS Scotland, and work to establish reliable and consistent systems and processes with our Improvement Advisors nationally, and through Improvement Teams locally. We use Quality Improvement tools to test and learn, and we protect time each quarter to come together nationally to share emerging good work, network and connect. This collaborative approach springboards our collective improvement efforts further and deeper as we test and spread. Our underpinning aim is always the provision of the Right Care, in the Right Place, for Every Patient, Every Time.
The worst of times – drawing out the very best of our people
The arrival of COVID-19 forced us to work very differently, cutting across traditional boundaries and delivering changes in the way the public accessed services, and the way we delivered them. This period of profound change demonstrated the fundamental need to engage the public, and staff, in change. Through the most testing times and significant challenge, we saw collaboration, innovation and public engagement accelerate. The worst of times saw our health and care services at their best. This learning will help us all deliver a programme of transformation which develops new pathways and models of care, and future proofs NHS Scotland.
Building on strength
The National Urgent and Unscheduled Care Collaborative brings the whole system together to harness and maintain the joined up and innovative thinking that characterised the response to the pandemic.
The wider aim, is to deliver a whole system approach to urgent and unscheduled care that will build resilience, recovery and ultimately transform our services
