To apply for a job in adult social care, you will typically be asked to submit a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and cover letter or to complete an application form. If you are short-listed for interview, then you will be invited to an interview to explore your eligibility and review your qualifications for the role; this could be on-line or in person.
If your interview proves successful, you will likely be given a conditional job offer. At this point the offer will be conditional until background checks are completed to confirm the information you provided, and there may be a request for additional information and/or proof of qualifications.
Background checks will include a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check by Disclosure Scotland, checking of references and a Criminal Record Check from other countries that you have been resident in. Due to the circumstances around refugees and asylum seekers, the Care Inspectorate and the SSSC recognize that completing some of these checks may be very difficult, so a level of risk assessment is allowed, as contained within their guide ‘Safer recruitment through better recruitment’.
If you are selected for the job, you will then receive a formal offer which you can negotiate before accepting.
Shortly after arrival your induction should begin, providing you with training and possibly to obtain additional qualifications.
