The Scottish Dental Mandatory Training programme is a course that dentists are required to complete if they want to join the dental list in Scotland for the first time, or return to it after being absent for twelve months or more.
Mandatory Training is a Scottish Government programme. This certification is necessary for a territorial Health Board to issue a list number.
Learning outcomes:
Discuss when there is a need to consult with others prior to carrying out treatment for an adult who lacks capacity to consent
Describe what is meant by adult with incapacity.
List the key principles underpinning the Adults with Incapacity Act (Scotland) 2000.
Discuss informed consent and appropriate record keeping.
Review the local rules required within general dental practice radiography and the responsibilities of those personnel in related roles.
Discuss top tips on taking the best radiograph in general dental practice.
Discuss record keeping in relation to radiographs including justification, reporting and grading.
Identify the latest Guidance taken from the guidance documents and how to source this information
Explain the principles of standard infection control precautions.
Explain the principles and methods of the decontamination process.
Review requirements for contemporaneous, accurate records and review SDCEP Guidance.
Explain the NHS(GDS)(Scotland) Regulations 2010 and its Amendments
Interpret the sections and applications of the SDR.
Describe the role of Practitioner Services within National Services Scotland (NSS) and how they can support the General Dental Practitioner
As part of Mandatory Training you will undertake a 3.5 hour BLS assessed course. CPD for this can be found on the BLS course on TURAS Learn.
