MSC - Managing Surgical Crisis includes classroom non-technical skills training in recognising and responding safely to unexpected or crisis events in the OR. This is followed by eight simulation stations with debrief, in which we always see trainees grow in confidence and safety. Directed by Alistair Geraghty, Cons Colorectal Surgeon Forth Valley, and team.
CoSMoS – Consultation Skills that Matter for Surgeons – is a new collaboration between IST and the RCSEd ICONS course faculty. Through video and classroom material we aim to give you some theory and tools to help with Consultation and Shared Decision Making with patients. After the event and practice in the workplace, we will send out a webcam and consent form so you can record a real consultation and upload it to us for a debrief session with faculty over Teams, which will be done in groups of three trainees. A further short Teams session later in the year will consolidate the learning. This is a pilot first module of a potential 4-module series for ST2-5.
