Role development in Estates and Facilities

Between 2022 and 2023, the Widening Access Team at NHS Education Scotland (NES) planned and launched a pilot scheme in collaboration with NHS Grampian to explore the potential for a new role of Facilities Quality & Compliance Educator.

This was to offer a new career pathway for facilities workforce that didn't previously exist; and to meet the education needs of the current and future Facilities Support Workforce.

Research and learning needs analysis

In keeping with our commitment to the support workforce, NES has been carrying out research over the last few years which has included a learning needs analysis for the Business, Admin, Estates & Facilities workforce across NHSS.

Research also includes work on the identity of the support workforce and looking at career development and aspirations.

The information gathered tells us that there are lots of things people want to know more about, whether it is specific skills that will help them in their current job, help them get a new job at a new or different level or whether they have changed their career aspirations entirely.

You will find further details in Phase 1 of the research full report and recommendations.
