Q: Will I receive a certificate after completing an SMMDP course and if so, how is this sent?
Q: Do you host other learning resources out-with SMMDP practical courses?
A: Following successful completion of an SMMDP course, our business support team will email a course evaluation and certificate download link. The certificates can be downloaded following the completion of the evaluation. They are editable for you to enter your name into the light blue text box. Thereafter, you can download the certificate and save for your core mandatory training records.
Please note, a certificate will not be sent for the Scottish Routine Examination of the Newborn Course (SRENC) until the practical assessments have been completed and passed. If you do not manage to download your certificate on time, you can complete our duplicate certificate/CPD evidence request form and a member of our business support team will respond to your enquiry.
A: Our SMMDP business support team will send the “candidate invite email” around 4-6 weeks in advance of the practical course date. This email will detail the course date, time, location, registration details, and pre-course requirements.
The Scottish Neonatal Resuscitation Course (SNRC) is the only course at present on Turas Learn. The candidate invite email will contain links to the appropriate e-learning page and provides a guidance infographic and video film on the step-by-step pre-course requirements.
All other courses are set up on an automation service whereby the pre-course reading and multiple-choice questionnaire links are sent via email following successful registration. Please do not hesitate to contact us and/or your local Practice Education Team should you have any questions.
A: We appreciate Turas can be difficult to navigate and have listened to our participant’s feedback on this. To help, we have produced a guidance infographic and video guidance film to provide step by step instructions on the navigation of the SNRC Turas page and pre-course requirements. Links to both are available on the candidate invite email sent by the SMMDP business support team. You can also access the SMMDP resources. You are welcome to contact us at any time if you have any questions and we will be more than happy to assist you SMMDP@nes.scot.nhs.uk.
A: To re-set your learning profile after previously completing an SNRC, please click on the “start learning programme again” option. A confirmation alert will show on screen, select “start learning programme again” tab. This will re-set your learning and allow you to complete each of the individual modules step by step. Please ensure all pre-course learning, including the multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ), is complete prior to attend the practical course date.
If you are attending a new course date after cancelling or not attending a previous SNRC practical session, and completed the pre-course requirements and MCQ, you will still have access to the modules on Turas. In this instance, there is no requirement to click “start learning programme again”. However, it is important to re-familiarise yourself with the course content. To do this, re-click on the individualised pre-course content modules on Turas to read the materials and watch the video lectures. Following this, please re-sit the MCQ and follow all of the on-screen instructions for your score to update. SMMDP will use this score to evidence your updated learning. Please note, the refreshing of the learning materials and re-completion of the MCQ must be actioned for you to successfully complete the practical session. If we do not receive an updated MCQ score, this counts as non-completion of the pre-course requirements.
A: Yes, we do! We receive a vast amount of course enquiries from colleagues working across multi-professions and always endeavour to find the right course for their roles and specialisms*. This includes Doctors, Accident and Emergency staff, GPs, Scottish Ambulance Service staff and a range of others. We have worked hard to develop close professional relationships with multi-disciplinary colleagues and are keen to continue this. Please complete our course enquiry form and we will respond to your enquiry at the earliest opportunity.
If you are self-funding your space on a course, NES Finance Department will email a WorldPay payment link to you directly. All payment links have a 72-hour expiry window from the date they are sent. However, we can request new links are emailed if a participant does not manage to complete the payment on time. We kindly request all payments are made in advance of the practical session to confirm your course booking.
*Please note, local Practice Education Teams reserve spaces for their staff who complete SMMDP courses as part of their core mandatory training updates. Therefore, we recommend contacting us at the earliest opportunity to obtain a space on your chosen course. In the instance there is no availability on your preferred course/date, we will liaise with you to offer suitable alternatives and signpost you to the most appropriate course(s).

These are aimed at healthcare professionals working in neonatal or maternity care, providing care to the neonate at birth including Midwives, Neonatal Nurses, Medical staff, Allied Health Professionals (AHP), and Health Care Support Workers (HCSW).
