Details of the sessions National Centre for Remote and Rural Health and Care International Webinar Series.

Introduction

The National Centre for Remote and Rural Health and Care are pleased to announce a series of Webinars open for a national and international audience, covering a range of education programmes, relevant to remote and rural communities throughout the world.

A synopsis of each webinar is detailed below along with links to register.

Rural and Remote Health Credential

Date: Friday 15th November 2024, 10:00 - 11:00 GMT

Speaker: Dr Pauline Wilson is a Consultant Physician, Associate Medical Director (Acute)/ Director of Medical Education and Associate Postgraduate Dean for Remote and Rural Credentialing based in Shetland.

Biography: Dr Pauline Wilson is a consultant physician in the Shetland Islands. She is a Shetlander who moved back to the islands 18 years ago and is passionate about the delivery of high-quality healthcare to rural communities. A key area of interest is teaching, training and ensuring rural clinicians are trained fit for purpose.

Aims of Session: The Credential in Rural and Remote Health will help to address the service and patient safety need for General Practitioners as well as doctors in non-training grade positions working in these contexts to extend and enhance the skills not covered in Speciality Training.

GP Rural Fellowship

Date: Tuesday 26th November 2024, 10:30 - 11:30 GMT

Speaker: Dr Debbie Miller

Biography: Dr Debbie Miller is a General Practitioner near Inverness. She has been a partner in an innovative GP practice in Nairn for 15 years and is a passionate advocate for generalist medicine in primary care. Dr Debbie also oversees GP training in the North of Scotland including the National Rural Track GP Training Programme.

Aims of Session: 

  • Those who might be interested in becoming a rural fellow – Newly qualified GPs and GP Trainees in their last year of training.
  • Those interested in becoming involved – Primary care leads, GPs in established Rural GP practices or RGHs.
  • Other clinicians who work in rural practices for greater understanding.
  • GP Trainees in their final year and Rural Health Board primary care leads.

UK Perspective on Advanced Practice

Date: Thursday 6th March 2025, 10:30 - 11:30 GMT

Speaker: Colette Henderson – Associate Dean (Student Recruitment and Global Partnerships), School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee.

Biography: Senior lecturer and doctoral candidate at the School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee, NMC Nurse Advisor (Scotland) advanced practice and chair of the Scottish Advanced Practice Educators Network.

Aims of Session: This session will explore the development of advanced practice, how it has evolved throughout the UK and the current discourse on regulation.

International Perspective on Advanced Practice

Date: Wednesday 19th March 2025, 10:30 - 11:30 GMT

Speaker: Colette Henderson – Associate Dean (Student Recruitment and Global Partnerships), School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee.

Biography: Senior lecturer and doctoral candidate at the School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee, NMC Nurse Advisor (Scotland) advanced practice and chair of the Scottish Advanced Practice Educators Network.

Aims of Session: To inform about current gaps in advanced practice nursing research globally. A clearer understanding of the roles that are in place across the globe, and how they are being used will support greater role harmonization, and inform global priorities for advanced practice nursing education, research, and policy reform.
