This guide has been developed as a tool to signpost supervisors, managers, Health Boards, and GP Practices to resources which can assist in providing a robust induction, and ongoing pastoral support for any new IMGs joining the workforce.
Explore the range of induction and preparation for IMGs resources. We hope this is a useful tool for IMGs starting any medical role in NHS Scotland.
If you have any questions about the information in this guide, or you feel there is information which would be useful to add, please get in touch with the Centre for Workforce Supply at nes.cws@nhs.scot.
New IMGs will receive an induction to the Health Board they are working in. The HR/Medical Staffing team and the IMG Lead can provide further information.
Guidance to support Health Boards and GP practices provide a tailored induction programme for new IMGs:
In-person enhanced SIM sessions are available in several Health Boards, to help IMGs with some of the challenges they might experience if new to practicing in the UK. These provide a learning experience in a safe environment, and are not assessed. Contact your Health Board contact for information about these sessions, or contact Julie.mardon@nhs.scot to discuss incorporating SIM in local induction programmes.
