Essential tools

The VBRP® Essential Toolkit Course is open to all health and social care staff free of charge and with no pre-course requirements. The course is available nationally in a blended learning format ( 3 x asynchronous e-learning modules plus 2 x 2-hour synchronous TEAMS sessions) or available locally as a 1-day in-person format. Upon completion of the Essential Toolkit course, participants can use the tools to enhance work-based practice.

At the end of the Essential Toolkit course, participants may:

  • Reflect on their own practice using the tools of the Essential Toolkit
  • Participate more fully in a group or meeting facilitated by a registered facilitator where the tools are used to reflect on past or future practice

National VBRP® essential toolkit training 2026/27

Essential Toolkit Training via TURAS & Online Platforms

This course will be delivered over a 2 week period with each week comprising of 1 online module to be completed individually followed by a 2-hour Teams workshop with the facilitator.

Facilitator dynamics and processes

The national Facilitator Dynamics and Processes course is delivered in a blended format, mixing flipped classroom eLearning modules, Teams sessions and a half day in-person training. The course is designed for health and social care staff who have completed the Essential Tools course and who wish to become VBRP® facilitators, and facilitate group VBRP® sessions. The skills learned are also transferable to situations where staff are required to facilitate group meetings, review processes, conduct service audits, initiate reflective practice opportunities, etc.

At the end of the Dynamics and Processes course, participants return to their local NHS Board to complete the practical aspect of group facilitation training in preparation for their sign off as a facilitator under the guidance of the local VBRP® Lead.

National VBRP® Facilitator dynamics & processes training 2026/27

National Facilitator Dynamics and Processes Training is delivered via a blended format with a mixture of flipped classroom eLearning modules, facilitated Team's sessions, and a half day in person training. You need to be available for all training sessions to be accepted onto the course. After completing the national course, participants will meet with their Board VBRP Lead to progress to the supported stage of their facilitation training, before they will be assessed for final sign off.

Course Format

  • eLearning modules for foundational knowledge
  • Facilitated Microsoft Teams sessions for interactive learning
  • In-person skills practice for hands-on skills practice

Attendance Requirements

To successfully complete this training, participants must achieve the following:

  • 4 flipped classroom modules (100% completion required)
  • Attendance at all 3 online sessions (each 2 hours)
  • An in-person skills practice session (3 hours)

Please note: Failure to meet these requirements will prevent course completion.

eLearning Preparation

  • Modules sent 2 weeks before each online session and to be completed and submitted before each teams session
  • Example: Module 1 distributed Tuesday 17th March to be completed and returned by Friday 27th March for the 1st teams session the following Tuesday

Given the specialist nature of this training, instead of setting dates we are collecting applications and once we have the minimum number required to run the course we will liaise directly with all the applicants to find mutually convenient dates.

This course is delivered in a blended learning format consisting of flipped classroom eLearning modules, facilitated MS Teams sessions and homework. The MS Teams sessions take place over three full days (10am to 4pm), over a total period of five to six weeks, with presentations to be prepared between each MS Team session.
