Welcome to the NES Innovation and Workforce Diversification Workstream

As a component of the NHS Scotland Academy, Learning and Innovation Directorate in NHS Education for Scotland (NES), supporting innovation through workforce education, training and workforce redesign. 

Scotland’s National Innovation Strategy (2023) defines innovation as “The introduction and implementation of a new or significantly improved product, service, process, or method with the purpose of helping to solve societal challenges or delivering economic growth”.

The Innovation and Workforce Diversification (IWD) Workstream has 5 priority Themes:

These are progressed through separate workstreams which focus on innovation pipelines and workforce diversification. 

Strategic collaboration and partnerships enable understanding  and analysis of the likely impact of emergent technologies on progressive care pathways. 

This supports forecasting, planning and development of new skills and capability needed in the health and care workforce.
