As part of your assessment process you must present a patient case. This page holds helpful resources and information which will act as guides for your tasks.
The Adults with Incapacity Scotland Act (2000), requires us to assess a clinician’s knowledge of the Act and related skills and attitudes, prior to being able to authorise them to assess the capacity of patients who come under the act and subsequently sign section 47 forms.
To do this, a variety of assessment tools are used.
You are required to present a case study featuring a patient where you applied the principles of the AWI Act to assess their capacity to consent to treatment.
This could be a patient under a current treatment plan or a historical patient case.
You are expected to present and complete the AWI training within 6 months of starting the course.
Should a participant fail to demonstrate their understanding of the course learning outcomes within their assessment presentation, the assessors will request the additional submission of a case report. Learners will be informed of this in their presentation feedback.
In this case you will be required to submit a 500-700 word written case study based on a patient who you have treated or are currently treating under the AWI Act.
Important information: The case report should be based on a different patient case, from that of you presentation.
