Throughout the COVID 19 pandemic the NHS Tayside Orthoptic department sought non-contact alternatives for seeing patients. Our solution was using Near Me video appointments with most patients. I used the Digital Health and Care Leadership Programme to enable me to refine this service.
The project has allowed the department to continue the use of virtual appointments, despite outpatient clinics seeing more patients in person again. It has shown that safe and effective orthoptic patient care is possible remotely.
