We'll also discuss the benefits (and challenges) of adopting R in your work. The webinar is intended to be a accessible and non-technical overview, and we welcome all participants irrespective of their degree of R experience
The KIND Learning Network are delighted to announce a follow-up webinar by the NHS Dumfries & Galloway Performance and Intelligence team. Join us to learn more about their journey with Power BI over the past six months.

Working with knowledge, information, and data often raises issues of copyright. While copyright may not be a subject that most individuals want to study in depth, staff across the knowledge, information, and data workforce profession may encounter copyright issues during the course of their work. If you are frequently asked to provide access to content, then you will need to be mindful of the legal rights of the creators and distributors of intellectual property.
In this KIND webinar, Alison Forde and Robert Allanson from NES’s Knowledge Services unit gave an interactive overview of how to stay copyright compliant when your work reuses text or media. The first part of the webinar gave attendees an introduction to the principals and practice of managing copyright, while the second part consisted of a question and answer session. You can also find copyright help and support via the copyright pages on TURAS.
The Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh offers a range of CPD and PPD opportunities to support the health and social care workforce to design, deliver, evaluate and improve high-quality person-centred care for citizens and service users. Sharon Levy, CPD lead, led this interactive webinar session that gave an overview of the University of Edinburgh’s suite of education opportunities for people at all stages in their career in health and social care.
These courses cover a wide range of subjects of interest to current and prospective KIND staff, including:
Funding is available for many of the programmes, and credit bearing and non-credit bearing options are available.
Following their earlier webinar for the KIND Learning Network, we're delighted to welcome Alison Forde and Donna Watson back to give a follow-up webinar giving more guidance about The Knowledge Network. Come along to find out how to get the best from this service, and find out how it can help you search and manage the information that you need.
Finding evidence is only one aspect of research, and deciding if what you find is of high quality is another!
The first half of this session will introduce the topic of assessing evidence, look at the evidence hierarchy, explore what questions you may ask and highlight tools that can help when assessing research.
This will be followed by an ‘Ask a Librarian Q&A Session’- where you can ask the presenters questions on the subject or indeed any other Knowledge Network related questions.
Finding comparative data is a critical part of most data-driven projects in health, care, and housing. This webinar introduced two complementary products – Discovery and ScotPHO – that provide data to health and care professionals. Join us in this interactive webinar session to hear from representatives of both products, to find out more about the kinds of data they contain, and to learn more about the ways that using them can strengthen your work.

The question of who decides what innovations are prioritised in health and social care data has risen to prominence over the last couple of years. After their earlier KIND Learning Network webinar in January 2022, Dr. Siabhainn Russell and Dr. Cian O'Donovan (UCL Department of Science and Technology Studies) will revisit these questions about how digital services can be designed to promote inclusion, and who should decide these questions about service design. Join us for an interactive discussion of these issues surrounding the ethical and governance challenges of using data in health and care. You can find a community-generated list of themes and queries in the KIND Learning Network webinar wiki.

Changes in health and social care services over the last decade have impacted on the questions being asked and the research being undertaken. There is a need to contextualise questions and data so that the results can practically be applied to real-world issues.
However, finding accurate, relevant, high quality evidence to underpin practice and research can be challenging. The NHSScotland Knowledge Network offers access to a multitude of research platforms and resources where health and social care staff can find the supporting information needed to answer the questions they face. Understanding how to use these effectively can help make the evidence finding journey more manageable.
Alison Forde and Donna Watson from the Knowledge Management and Discovery unit within NES will highlight some of the features in the library search to help researchers use the interface more effectively. The session will offer an opportunity to ask questions about the resources available and discuss search skills.

For the February 2022 KIND Learning Network webinar, Shannon McNee from Carr Gomm led a discussion on digital inclusion. COVID-19 has shown how vital digital services are for health and social care. But ensuring that digital services are inclusive remains a challenge. How can staff across the knowledge, information, and data workforce contribute to inclusive digital services?
Carr Gomm is a leading social care and community development charity supporting over 2,000 people every day across Scotland. Carr Gomm’s Digital Inclusion Research Project seeks to learn more about the digital needs of the people we support, and Carr Gomm staff, to ensure that everyone has the choice and opportunity to get online in a safe and meaningful way. Working collaboratively with a variety of Carr Gomm services, this project aims to shape our digital support offering and address feelings of social isolation and loneliness through reducing the digital divide.
