Developing at level 2

We know that many support workers wish to remain at the same level but build on existing knowledge and skills – we call this horizontal progression where the skills in one pillar support development in others.

Level 2
healthcare support worker band 2 role four pillars of practice image

At Level 2, clinical skills remain the strongest pillar of practice in your role; but it is equally important to recognise the role you play in supporting others to learn, for example students on placement or new members of the team.

As frontline members of the team you are in an ideal position to suggest improvements for change as you are close to where the blockages and frustrations in the system are happening.  Being close to practice means that self-leadership is very important.

More more in-depth information, take the time to explore the HCSW Development and Education Framework and review the level 2 overview and pillars of practice (pages 15-22)
