Arthroplasty Rehabilitation in Scotland Endeavour (ARISE)

Add to favourites

Whilst Enhanced Recovery is not a new concept in Scotland for lower limb arthroplasty surgery, it is recognised that significant variation in pathway management still exists. In late 2019, a multidisciplinary consensus event was held in Edinburgh to design a national pathway for hip and knee arthroplasty surgery in Scotland based on the leading evidence base.

The aim of the programme is to improve adherence to the national pathway leading to better-quality recovery for patients across Scotland. Funding was provided to each health board to support local implementation by the multidisciplinary team.

If you wish to get involved please contact David McDonald, Interim Head of Programmes, Modernising Patient Pathways Programme (MPPP), david.mcdonald@nhs.scot.

Prof Tom Wainwright supported development of the ARISE pathway in Scotland. To access details of his published recommendations click here.

Key activities

Following national agreement a national pathway was shared with all health boards with a supporting minimal dataset to evidence adherence and outcomes.
