Patient rights (Scotland) act 2011

Add to favourites

The Act supports the Scottish Government’s vision for the continued development of a high-quality NHS that respects the rights of patients, their carers and all the people who deliver health services.

Resources

In this section you will find a leaflet and supporting factsheets which outline the implications for every member of staff working for NHSScotland and all independent contractors who provide NHS services to patients and their carers.

Factsheet 3 on the Treatment Time Guarantee was previously withheld as the Regulations and Directions had not been finalised at the time all other factsheets were produced. The Treatment Time Guarantee came into effect from 1 October 2012 and the Scottish Government has produced CEL 32 (2012) which contains guidance to assist Boards to understand the Treatment Time Guarantee.

To avoid confusion and on the advice of Scottish Government colleagues NES will now not be producing factsheet 3 in either electronic or hard copy.  The CEL and guidance can be accessed at: http://www.sehd.scot.nhs.uk/mels/CEL2012_32.pdf

Charter of patient rights and responsibilities

The Charter of Patient Rights and Responsibilities (the ‘charter’) summarises what patients are entitled to when they use NHS services and receive NHS care in Scotland, and what they can do if they feel that their rights have not been respected.

You can access the new charter here: https://www.gov.scot/publications/charter-patient-rights-responsibilities-2/
