Supporting Early Child Development in a Screen-Using World: Evidence-Informed Practice and Responsive Interactions


The Women, Children, Young People and Families (WCYPF) team at Public Services Delivery Scotland were delighted to be hosting the Supporting Early Child Development in a Screen‑Using World webinar.

This webinar supported healthcare practitioners to confidently apply evidence‑based screen use advice in everyday practice. It focused on promoting responsive interactions, strengthening parent–infant relationships, and supporting early child development through inclusive, person‑centred, and compassionate approaches.

Aims of the Webinar:

Participants were be supported to:

  • Explore screen use and early child development in the context of current evidence.

  • Translate evidence into practice, enabling effective, sensitive conversations with families about screen use.

  • Recognise the importance of responsive interactions as a key protective factor in early child development.

  • Explore practitioner approaches to supporting families, including parent–infant relationships and inclusive, neurodiversity‑informed practice.

  • Identify evidence‑based resources and advice to support ongoing learning and effective signposting for parents and carers.
