NES Systems Thinking Cards

In this joint US, Canadian and NES study, co-led by Prof Paul Bowie, the research team adapted the original NHS Education for Scotland (STEW) cards using consensus-building methods with front-line staff and safety leaders in a US healthcare organisation.  Each card was examined for relevance, applicability, language and aesthetics (colour, style, visual cues and size).

The adapted STEW cards provide an easy-to-use guide to help users understand the healthcare system being studied, learn from problems encountered and understand the everyday work involved in providing excellent care. The cards offer a practical ‘systems approach’ for use within highly complex healthcare systems.
