This learning resource has been developed to equip registered healthcare practitioners with the essential knowledge and skills to confidently deliver the Gonorrhoea Vaccination Programme. Whether you're new to this area or looking to refresh your understanding, the materials offer practical guidance and key insights to support safe and effective immunisation delivery.

Learning Resources

To support the introduction of the Gonorrhoea Vaccination Programme in Scotland from 2025, NHS Education for Scotland (NES), in collaboration with Public Health Scotland (PHS), has developed a read-only PowerPoint presentation designed to support registered healthcare practitioners to identify those at greatest risk of Gonorrhoea infection and to safely and effectively administer the vaccine.

This resource provides an overview of the symptoms, complications and epidemiology of gonorrhoea, explains the rationale for using the meningococcal B vaccine (4CMenB) for prevention, and outlines the targeted approach for high-risk populations. It also offers practical guidance on vaccine administration and eligibility criteria.

Resources are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current guidance but do not replace clinical judgement. Practitioners should refer to the Gonorrhoea: the green book, chapter when administering the vaccine.

Further guidance is also available in the CMO letter dated 2025: CMO Letter: Gonorrhoea Vaccination Programme 2025
