Tools and resources
The appraisal process provides supervisors and managers the opportunity to support staff with their professional development and career opportunities.
Following the initial appraisal, there should be clarity in relation to what professional development opportunities a staff member may explore and what support they may require.
There are a number of helpful methods to support staff to consider learning objectives.
Staff can access a reflective self-assessment tool which can be found on the NMAHP Development Framework website. This tool can support staff to plan their professional development.
In addition, the reflective templates within professional portfolio may be helpful as they guide staff through an aspect of work and supports them to consider opportunities for further development.
Within the professional portfolio, there is also a professional journey plan which can be completed. This supports staff to examine their objectives which have been set during their appraisal and looks at actions and barriers as well as ways to achieve these objectives.
Another tool on the NMAHP Development Framework website, is an action planning and priority rating tool. This tool can help staff to create actionable steps to help achieve objectives and meet the professional development plan. The tool is also a great way to track progress.
