Scottish Core Surgical Trainee Research and Audit Symposium Event, which will take place on the 12 December 2025 at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

This event will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase your work, be inspired by the research of your colleagues, and foster new collaborations.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

  • One abstract only - if you have more than one piece of work you wish to present select the piece of work which best fits the below description.
  • Maximum length: 250 words.
  • The abstract should not have been presented elsewhere more than once before this submission.
  • You should be the primary researcher and the main author of the abstract and presentation. You should have permission from all the co-authors to submit the abstract for this event.
  • The abstract should be pertinent to research or audit work carried out during core surgical training.
  • Format: structured abstract (Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions).
  • When submitting, please indicate whether your abstract is for:
    • General presentations
    • “Work in progress” presentations - this is for work which is unfinished or still in the planning stage. You will receive advice about your own work from colleagues and the judging panel.
  • References are not required.
  • No tables or images should be included.
  • Submission deadline: 10 November 2025

Prerequisites:
You must be a current Scottish Core Surgical Trainee.

Learning aims:
For trainees to develop skills in presenting research and clearly communicating key findings, both by sharing their own work and by engaging with colleagues' presentations. Recognise the value of "work in progress" presentations as a forum for feedback and early idea development, with the ultimate aim of publishing these ideas. Identify opportunities to connect with colleagues and explore potential collaborations.
