Formulating the experience of trauma with neurodivergent people

Add to favourites

In the last ten years, we have become increasingly aware of just how variable people are, and one way in which we are understanding that is through the lens of neurodiversity.   People who are significantly different to the average in several ways are sometimes called ‘neurodivergent’.  These are people who might get diagnoses of autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental differences. These people have often grown up being told that there is something wrong with them, or feeling that they are deficient in some way.

In this webinar, Dr Naomi Fisher will talk about what neurodiversity means for psychological interventions, contrasting neurodiversity with other ways of understanding difference, to understand the context which brings people to our services.  Naomi describes how trauma and neurodiversity interact and presents a formulation tool, and ways in which practice can be adapted to work more effectively with neurodivergent people.

This webinar aims to promote evidence-based practice and the appropriate use of psychological intervention to understand the impact of trauma and related difficulties within this population.
