This teaching day will form part of the core teaching series for the Core Surgical Trainees. The aim is to help trainees studying for the MRCS exam.

All day session to refine high yield MRCS Part B knowledge, practice procedural exam stations, improve structure and viva technique. All faculty post MRCS. Attendance certificates will be provided following completion of feedback. Day structure: 

Morning Lectures:

  • Plastics - Burns 
  • Critical Care/CRISSP (exam style physiology and peri-operative pearls) 
  • Surgical pathology - Endocrine disorders

Afternoon OSCE stations/small group teaching:

  • Chest drain insertion (indications, consent, safety, steps) 
  • Lower limb anatomy (surface anatomy, injuries, viva prompts) 
  • Vascular doppler (ABPI technique, waveform interpretation, pearls and pitfalls)
  • Urological malignancies with a focus on pathology 
  • ENT - submandibular station and facial anatomy 

Prerequisites:
You must be a current Scottish Core Surgical trainee.
