Childsmile Courses

There are two different formats of Childsmile training available:

One is a 6 module course which is aimed at those who have never completed any Childsmile training to date

The other is a 2 module refresher course which is for those who have completed Childsmile training prior to 2018

Childsmile Learning Programme

This learning programme covers the theoretical component of the training course and is credit rated by SQA at SCQF Level 7 with 6 notional credit points. 

The programme consists of essential self-directed learning, followed by tutor led face to face sessions via Microsoft TEAMS platform for each module.

You will require a Turas account to access the learning programme, if you do not already have a Turas account you can use your Office 365 login or create a Turas account by registering as a new user

REHIS Elementary Food and Health

Childsmile Development session

This course is for staff involved in delivering the Childsmile Programme. The course covers the importance of having a balanced diet, the needs of specific groups, the impact of food on health, and the function of vitamins and minerals. Current food initiatives and nutrition policy are addressed, to highlight the importance of bridging the gap in food health inequalities.

The course is accredited through REHIS(Royal Environmental Institute of Scotland) and has been independently rated on the Scottish Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at level 5 with one credit. Participants undertake a multiple choice exam at the end of the training session.

  • Food and Nutrients
  • Energy and Energy Balance
  • Influences on Food Intake
  • Eating for Health - Food and Wellbeing
  • Action Planning
