Childsmile 2 module update

Aim

To enable participants to demonstrate they have achieved enhanced continual professional development by keeping skills, knowledge, and competence up to date with current legislation and guidance in relation to their role in the delivery of Childsmile oral health improvement initiatives.

Learning Outcomes
  • Explore the need for a variety of data collection methods and how the data is used to identify health inequalities across Scotland.  
  • Describe the benefits of working with the community to reduce oral health inequalities.  
  • Provide details of preventatitve oral health information for familiies, in line with current guidance and legislation. 
  • Summarise SACN (Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition) guidance on free sugars and their affect on health and oral health. 
  • Discuss the barriers of a family facing challenges trying to follow the Eatwell guide. 
  • Describe one or more of the important aspects of motivational interviewing that support people to change their behaviour.   
  • Demonstrate the application of the principals of the MAP model of health behaviour change and Health Literacy techniques when sharing knowledge about a key oral health message. 
Course Information

This is a self-directed blended learning course delivered using digitally enhanced learning methods to meet the outcomes.  You will require access to the internet, computer with webcam and audio functions.   

There will be some compulsory elements to agree and complete:    

  • Line manager approval to attend the course  
  • Pre-course reading and e-learning to complete    
  • Attendance at four two-hour online sessions using Microsoft TEAMS platform  
  • Open book online formative assessment    
  • Workplace learning activity with submission of a reflective account   

  

On completion of all elements, you will receive a certificate and 8 hours verifiable CPD hours which consists of: 

  • 8 hours face to face learning  
  • 4 hours e-learning including workplace assignment
