People needing urgent medical assistance outwith their GP’s normal opening hours can access this through NHS24. NHS24 triage the request and, as a result, one option is for NHS24 to request the local Primary Care Out-of-Hours service to arrange for a clinician to visit the person’s home within 1, 2 or 4 hours depending on the urgency of the care required. It is important to ensure that people receive care in a timely manner. Arriving at home visits within the triaged timescales is one of the quality Indicators of Primary Care Out of Hours Services.
