These training resource will help support registered healthcare practitioners involved with the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) Immunisation programme. These resources include Mantoux skin testing.
Please note: These educational resources will be updated as required to support this programme but do not replace the clinical judgement of practitioners. Practitioners should refer to Immunisation Against Infectious Disease, Tuberculosis: The Green Book: Chapter 32, when administering this vaccine.
NOTE: An Annual Report detailing Tuberculosis epidemiology in Scotland over 2023 was published by Public Health Scotland on 22nd October 2024. The below learning resource will be updated to reflect this in due course.
Before you are able to undertake vaccination practice you need to demonstrate that you have achieved the required knowledge and skills. NES/PHS has developed a proficiency assessment documents for registered healthcare practitioners .This proficiency assessment document should be used in practice with your supervisor/line manager and will allow you to demonstrate proficiency of both the Mantoux skin test and the BCG immunisation.
