In 2012 the Scottish Government published "A Right to Speak" setting out recommendations and committing £4m of resources over the next 3 years to support implementing the changes envisioned to support people who use AAC to communicate. NES was a key partner in this support and the final report of the 3 years of work is availabile here. Following the work there have been changes in legislation and additional Scottish Government policy designed to continue to improve the experience of people in Scotland who exercise their Right to Speak using AAC. Much of the work achieved has continued to develop with the Right to Speak projects providing a sound underpinning platform to build and further develop the services and support that AAC users tell us they need.
