This course is aimed at GPs with a minimum of two years’ experience post-CCT and who are interested in becoming a GP trainer.

Course Structure:
This course is completed and facilitated using a blended learning approach, with online learning (hosted on TURAS Learn), virtual interactive sessions (delivered on Adobe Connect), and a face-to-face workshop (delivered in various locations across Scotland). 

The course has been designed to be completed in sequential order as illustrated below, with each resource building on your knowledge in order to prepare you for undertaking this important role.

Attend Session 1 – online via Adobe Connect

Complete online learning modules

  • Module 3: The journey to MRCGP
  • Module 4: Feedback

Attend Session 2 – online via Adobe Connect

Prepare presentation for allocated teaching topic (topics given during session 2)

Attend Session 3 – face-to-face

Please note modules 1 and 2 must be completed one week prior to the first session, and modules 3 and 4 must be completed one week prior to the second session.  Modules 3 and 4 are only released upon attending session 1.  Failure to complete the modules by the deadline will result in you being unable to continue on the course.  Please consider these deadlines when booking.

Aim: To help General Practitioners to develop the skills required to become GP Educational Supervisors.

Learning Objectives: On completion of the course the participant will have:

  • An understanding of the structure of GP training in Scotland
  • Awareness of what is required to establish a good learning environment in primary care
  •  An understanding of their role as an Educational Supervisor
  • Knowledge of how to provide trainee centred educational supervision
  • Practical knowledge of Workplace Based Assessments
  • An understanding of differential attainment and what needs to be in place to allow equity of training
  • Skills to provide effective feedback to a GP Trainee

 

Cancellations and refunds:
Please note that full automated refunds can be generated by TURAS Learn for cancellations up to 30 days prior to the course.  Within 30 days of the course dates, refunds may be given in exceptional circumstances only. NES reserves the right to remove anyone from a course, without the offer of a refund, if they are unable to fully participate. To be eligible for a certificate, full attendance is required. We request that delegates should not be on call during the course. Failure to fully participate on the course may result in you being removed from the course.

Online Delivery:
The online course is run via Adobe Connect. By booking onto this course, you are committing to download the Adobe Connect app (instructions will be given upon booking) and using Adobe Connect as instructed. You will be expected to have your webcam visible during the course. It is the delegate's responsibility to ensure they can access the workshop appropriately and have sufficient connection speed to participate. All delegates require a laptop or desktop computer, with functioning webcam & microphone to participate in the course.

Prerequisites:
Prior to booking, you must have met the following pre-requisites for the course: 1. You must have completed the Trainer Workshop course within the last five years 2. You must have completed equality and diversity training 3. You must be in good standing with the GMC 4. You must have met with your TPD for approval You should not attempt to book onto the GPTEC course unless you have met all of these pre-requisites.
