Aims and Learning Outcomes

Aims:

This session is aimed at dental teams working in all environments, presenting options for anxiety management which will be relevant to all areas of practice.  As registrants of the GDC, we must ensure that a patient's "dental pain and anxiety will be managed appropriately."  This requires consideration of non-pharmacological as well as sedative and anaesthetic options.  Those who provide sedation can consider this as sedation related CPD, although it is relevant to all with a focus on providing patients with consisent information, appropriate treatment planning and managing expectation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss a range of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods for managing adults who are anxious about dental treatment.
  • Know when to refer and what information is relevant to the patient journey.
  • Discuss medical conditions and other factors that may impact on sedation provision.

GDC Development Outcomes:

  • (A) Effective Communication
  • (C) Knowledge & Skills Development
