Work-based learning is an educational strategy that utilises trainee’s work-based experiences as learning opportunities. It recognises that a considerable amount of learning does take place in the workplace. Workplace based experiences are combined with other learning opportunities to create a learning contract where that learning and how it will be assessed is articulated. Academic credit is attached to these learning contracts to reflect the learning that has taken place. Work-based learning forms a large part of the Rural Advanced Practice Education Pathway.
