The Patient Reported Outcome Measure (PROM) provides service users with the opportunity to evaluate the kind of support chaplains offer.
In 2010, the first steps were taken to design a questionnaire or PROM (Patient Reported Outcome Measure) intended to provide service users with the opportunity to evaluate the kind of support chaplains offer. This research, to ‘capture the patient voice’, has been through several iterations, with data captured through various studies in Community Chaplaincy Listening (CCL), suggesting that “being able to talk about what is on my mind”, can be just as effective as traditional prescribing.
Wider use of the PROM, with researchers creating their own studies, has taken the tool into a variety of different healthcare settings, some of which have been overseas. If you would like to use the PROM to assist with your research study you should note that you will be required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), see process below. Should you wish to use the PROM only for a patient survey an MoU is not required. However, you do still need to ask for permission from NES to do so.
In such instances, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), intended as a broad framework document for collaboration, is signed between NES and the governing body overseeing the research project. The Intellectual Property rights of the PROM remain the property of NHS Education for Scotland who, along with the MoU, grant a licence to use the PROM.
