The Health and Care Staffing in Scotland Knowledge and Skills Framework has been developed to reflect the guiding principles for health and care staffing. It will support you in understanding the requirements of workload and workforce planning and your role in the application of the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019.

You will find this framework divided into 4 distinct topics which are called Domains. Each domain presents four levels of knowledge and skills which outlines the requirement which is dependent on your role, your responsibilities and your involvement in workforce planning.

The purpose of the Self- Assessment Tool:

For individuals:

  • Help assess their confidence levels in relation to the knowledge and skills required for their role in health and care staffing, and to identify their personal development needs. 
  • Reflect on their practice and identify areas where they may benefit from further development. 

For team leaders and managers:

  • Reporting function provides overview of team and organisational awareness of learning needs. 
  • This can be a way to streamline required training by identifying cohorts of staff with similar learning needs.
