IMT2 pre-course preparation
Please take the time to revise your skills in this area, view this as many times as required to refresh your memory and feel completely competent to perform this key step. All of the other procedures on the course will be performed with the expectation of full asepsis, as covered at boot camp.
The skills day gives you the opportunity to be signed off as ‘ready for directly supervised workplace practice’ in central line insertion, ultrasound guided peripheral venous access, arterial line insertion and guide wire chest drain insertion. However, this standard will only be reached if significant pre-course study is undertaken. This work is required even if you already feel confident in a procedure, to ensure that a common standard is attained in IMT.
If faculty feel you have not engaged with the pre-course learning, or you do not meet the required standard during the skills day, you will not be signed off as competent to proceed with supervised practice on patients and will have to find an alternative method of training.
