The session plan for your first day of START, train the trainer.
We will begin your day with a presentation to discuss the roles and responsibilities of being a VT Trainer. Here you will find out about your sessional commitments, discuss finances in relation to the course and experience an overview of the VT year.
In the afternoon we will be discussing assessment within VT.
We will discuss assigning the right nurse to support your VDP, alongside how to manage your VPD's appointment book. You will be given guidance on patient selection and advice on equipment and materials to suit the expectations and workload of your newly qualified clinician. We will introduce you to the role of your advisor and how they can support you, as well as your VDP as you enter into a training partnership.
Our Advisors will offer guidance which will advise and encourage fair recruitment that remains consistent and in accordance with current legal and ethical legislation. You will be guided through principles of fair selection, dental specific competency based interview techniques, evaluation and how to avoid making pre-employment bias decisions.
Our assessment presentation looks at the longitudinal evaluation of performance (LEP). As a trainer you will be required to assess your VDPs performance on a regular basis using the digital LEP assessment tool, but we also incorporate other assessment techniques such as the Test of Knowledge, and Patient Assessment Questionnaires. We'll discuss the framework which you will use to assess your VDP consistently and with regularity across a variety of constructs such as clinical judgement, technical ability, communication etc.
Visit the trainee page dedicated to assessment methods. Here you will discover information surrounding the different Significant Learning Events used to assess and evaluate skills across the 4 competency domains.
