In this taster lecture, Dr James Buckley (Senior Lecturer in Physiology at St George’s, University of London) introduces how the healthy respiratory system functions to ensure adequate oxygen supply, before discussing the mechanisms by which this process can be adversely impacted by COVID-19, potentially resulting in patients struggling to breathe, requiring artificial ventilation, and in many cases, dying.
