We hope this is helpful and that it will reduce the time it takes for you to get the answers to your queries.
To create a Portal account, go to https://portal.scot.nhs.uk and select “Sign Up” from the login area (usually top right). Please complete the information as accurately as possible and select the most appropriate role as this is used to determine which courses may be most relevant to you for notifications and searches. Please ensure that you opt-in to marketing emails if you wish to receive notifications of upcoming courses/webinars. To check this, log in and select Account Settings (at the top of the page) then under Marketing Preference ensure the "Check to opt in" box is ticked. It is recommended to access Portal through a desktop/laptop computer as the full functionality may not be available when using a mobile device.
Please ensure that you have opted-in to marketing emails if you wish to receive notifications of upcoming courses/webinars. To check this, log in and select Account Settings (at the top of the page) then under Marketing Preference ensure the "Check to opt in" box is ticked. You should also check that your registered Portal email address is up to date and that Portal emails are not being redirected into your spam/junk folders.
It appears that emails from NES and from the NHS are frequently diverted into spam/junk folders, especially in the case of Hotmail email accounts. We strongly recommend therefore that you update your registered Portal email address and use either your nhs.scot email or another provider, such as Gmail. This should help to ensure that our communications get through to you.
Registration links for webinars are sent out by email between 12-1 pm on the day before the webinar. Please register as soon as you can, so you have time to seek advice if you have any problem with the registration process. Once you have registered, the unique link you will be sent to allow you to attend should automatically open GoTo Webinar. We recommend joining 10 minutes before the start time to ensure you are connected in time and to enable you to view the pre-event slides. You should not need to download any app unless you wish to use the GoTo App on your smart phone.
If a speaker has agreed that a recording of their webinar can be made available, you will be able to access this via Portal TV. Log into Portal, then under the Main Menu, go to iBooklet/Search for…/Portal TV. Click on the Dental option and you will see the recordings which are currently available. Full details of each recording and how to book on and watch them can be found on TURAS Learn, where each recording has its own page. Go to: https://learn.nes.nhs.scot/15871/dental-cpd/educational-resources, where you will find the Portal TV recordings highlighted with an asterisk (*)
The first thing to check is that you have returned your shortened evaluation form. For Portal TV recordings, you must return your reflective comments on the form you will find in iBooklet/Manage.../Your Course Evaluations. If you have already done this, then please re-check the TURAS Learn page for that recording and in particular the section at the top of the page, which highlights the amount of vCPD and whether CPDA is available. Recordings must be more than one hour in duration to be eligible for CPDA. If CPDA is available and you can’t locate your GP214 as outlined below, please email nes.cpd.enquiries@nhs.scot so we can investigate further.
CPD certificates are made available within Portal within 2-3 days of each event, based on the attendance report generated by the webinar system. In line with GDC requirements, NES can only certify those who were present from the start time until the end time, and who actively engaged in the webinar as evidenced by submitting responses to the majority of the polls (see below). If you attended but have not been certificated, it is likely that you joined late, left early, or did not submit responses to the polls. If you feel that you should have been, please email nes.cpd.enquiries@nhs.scot so we can check your details in the attendance report.
If you have any problems entering the answers to polls during a live webinar, you can post the answer in the question/chat box when the polls are live or have been closed. If you are using the GoTo App on a Smart Phone or Tablet device, please scroll down if necessary and ensure you press the submit button each time you answer a poll. You will see an acknowledgement that your answer has been submitted. If you do not see this, post your answer in the question/chat box. The GDC require all education providers to have evidence of active participation and engagement during CPD events and in the case of webinars, we use your responses to the polls as a measure of this. Accordingly, you must answer the majority of the polls to allow us to certify your attendance.
Eligible GDPs can claim CPDA for any courses/webinars they have been certified as attending/watching which are over one hour in duration. In line with the SDR, you must submit your claim within 6 months of the event. To access your claim form, log into your Portal account, then under the Main Menu, go to iBooklet/Manage…/Your Claims/GP214. Please send any queries about CPDA and GP214’s to cpdgp214@nes.scot.nhs.uk
