The Professional Development Award in Technology Enabled Care (PDA in TEC) at SCQF Level 7 has been developed in collaboration with employers and academia to address the current needs of the sector.
The qualification equips Scotland's workforce with the knowledge and skills to integrate digital solutions into health and social care, supporting improved health and wellbeing outcomes.
Health and social care services face growing pressures around capacity and sustainability, affecting both the workforce and the people they support.
The PDA in TEC qualification helps embed preventative approaches across health, housing, and social care, while building the digital skills needed to deliver more effective, responsive services.
It also supports Scotland's Digital Health and Care Strategy, Enabling, Connecting, and Empowering: Care in the Digital Age, by prioritising workforce development and empowering people to thrive in an increasingly digital society.
Professional Development Awards (PDAs) enhance vocational and professional skills, aligning with National Occupational Standards.
The PDA is TEC is delivered online, through self-directed study supported by tutors, online sessions, and digital resources. Most learning comes from participants' own research and practical experience, used to build evidence of professional development.
The PDA in TEC is for those new to digital health and care or looking to develop their knowledge and skills in this area.
It supports frontline staff across health, social care, social work and housing, including care homes and care-at-home services within the public, independent and third sectors. The award equips participants to promote and adopt digital technologies that enhance service delivery, support self-management, and help people live independently.
It also contributes to Continued Professional Development (CPD) providing evidence of achievement that can support career progression with current or future employers.
NHS Education for Scotland (NES) has funded 300 staff across health, social care, social work and housing to complete the PDA in TEC.
