Introduction

Welcome to the NHS Education for Scotland Facilitation of Learning Programme. This programme aims to support health and social care workers with a role in facilitating learning in the workplace. Its purpose is to support the development of knowledge and skills in relation to the design and delivery of education and training and is relevant for both clinical and non-clinical roles. The programme introduces learning theories and education principles that should be considered when supporting adult learning and development. It supports an evidenced based approach to a variety of education roles, including preceptorship, practice and professional supervision and patient education.

As with all aspects of practice, facilitation of learning should be underpinned by a Trauma-informed approach, particularly when working with technology enhanced learning environments. Educators should ensure they have undertaken the appropriate level of training for their role and apply the relevant knowledge to their education practice. Details can be accessed via the National trauma training programme.
