The Ageing patient : Delivering oral care for the ageing population. A course for Dental Core trainees (DCT). 

The DCT has access to this course at the appropriate date and time when employed in the public dental service (PDS).

 

Prerequisites:
Employed in the PDS as a DCT.

Learning aims:
This blended learning module will introduce DCTs to topics related to the provision of dental care for the growing numbers of older people in the population. The implications of more patients retaining natural teeth into older age along with complexities of providing treatment, will be explored, including assessing the need for care on a domiciliary basis, and how this should be carried out.

Learning outcomes:
Discuss the challenges posed in providing dental care for an ageing population Discuss issues that should be taken in to account when planning dental treatment for older people. Consider indications for treatment on a domiciliary basis and plan appropriately for providing domiciliary dental care.
