Programme introduction/Aims and objectives

The aim of this workstream is to support effective and faster service change to ensure patients are able to access healthcare in a timely manner by:

  1. Facilitation of mutual learning an support for colleagues during the COVID-19 response allowing for the maintenance of services, sharing of good practice and sharing of national guidance available such as infection, prevention and control and prioritisation of surgery.
  2. Supporting implementation of Active Clinical Referral Triage (ACRT) and Patient Initiated Review (PIR)
  3. Supporting implementation of national guidance for Lumps/Bumps/Haemorroids, inclusive of patient-centred information and shared decision making

Resources

Ongoing activities include:

  • 2-3 monthly virtual meetings with General Surgery multi-disciplinary team colleagues in NHS Board

  • Sharing of national supporting documents for current COVID-19 pandemic, such as infection control, etc.

  • Support establishment of 2 x ACNs for nurse-led services pilot for Biliary Colic and Inguinal Hernia
