Career pathways and qualifications

Career development means different things to different people, and it can happen in different ways.  Many support workers have long and fulfilling careers, some would like to prepare for higher level support worker roles, and some may wish to explore becoming a registered healthcare practitioner.   Some support workers have told us its frustrating to not have clear career pathways or equitable access to learning opportunities.  Only you will know which path is the right one for you, given your circumstances and  ambitions.

There are resources to support whatever path you choose is right for you, be that:

  • Developing as a support worker in your role or a higher level post
  • Undertaking further training and qualifications
  • Making transition to becoming a registered practitioner (nurse, midwife or allied health professional)
