The Remote and Rural Healthcare Educational Alliance (RRHEAL), NHS Education for Scotland (NES), have been working in partnership with the Scottish Rural Medicine Collaborative (SRMC) to identify an affordable, standardised education and training pathway for multi-disciplinary rural practitioners at advanced practice level. RRHEAL have completed the initial consultation work and would now like to share this work with key Remote, Rural and Island NHS Board and Educational partners
The format of the Seminar, on the 29th January 2020, will include leading presentations on National and International Remote, Rural and Island Healthcare Education. A question and answer session will be available for participants to find out more about the Rural Advanced Practitioner (RAP) Educational Pathway. There will also be opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the key competencies within RAP and provide feedback to RRHEAL.
The morning session will provide an overview of the national and international remote, rural and island healthcare education and research initiatives and will describe how these align to the Scottish Multidisciplinary Remote & Rural Advanced Practitioner Educational Pathway.
The afternoon session will provide an opportunity for delegates to review the draft Scottish Multidisciplinary Remote & Rural Advanced Practitioner Educational Competencies and provide feedback to RRHEAL.

RRHEAL Rural Advanced Nurse Practitioner Education Needs Report (2017) As part of ongoing work to help develop accessible, affordable and sustainable education and training, the Remote and Rural Healthcare Educational Alliance (RRHEAL) sought to explore the specific education and training priorities for rural Advanced Nurse Practitioners (rural ANP). This was in the context of persistent enquiries from territorial NHS Boards seeking efficient routes to both develop and maintain the knowledge and skills of such staff. NHS Highland developed an inventory of education and clinical skills needs in the context of rural ANPs. With helpful permission, RRHEAL further developed this inventory into two skills matrices for: Core education needs of ANPs: Specific Paediatric education needs.
